Safety Message

The Youghiogheny River Gorge within Ohiopyle State Park contains very rugged terrain and an abundance of natural hazards. Visitors should be especially alert for steep banks, slippery rocks and turbulent waters. Those choosing to pursue whitewater boating must learn to recognize river hazards and understand that injury and death can result when attempting the Lower Youghiogheny. Adults must be particularly watchful of children who may not recognize such hazards.

In an Emergency

Contact a park employee or dial 911.
For directions to the nearest hospital, look on bulletin boards or at the park office.
