Fog is nearly a daily activity along the ridges, particularly along the slopes of Laurel Ridge. A moist forest canopy combines with mountain springs, streams, lakes, and the Youghiogheny River to provide plenty of water saturation in an atmosphere often stagnant in between the ridges. This makes for some pretty bleak scenes, sometimes as late as 1 PM - even in summer. The effects of this fog can be mysterious in autumn, with the slopes of Laurel Ridge often peaking before the ridge top.
