Peering up through a break in the Forbes State Forest canopy at a beautiful mix of autumn 2003 color along the Beam Rocks Trail near Laurel Summit State Park. A thin stretch just below the top of Laurel Ridge seems to peak earlier than the surrounding terrain year after year. A snowfall here late in September and some heavy frosts likely helped to convince these trees to shed their green over a week earlier than normal.
