An autumn scene is featured facing north from the High Point Observation Tower, which stands next to a rock that is 3,213 feet in elevation — the highest point in all of Pennsylvania. Mt. Davis is a knob on the 30-mile long Negro Mountain in south central Somerset County, and contains some of the oldest geological rock formations in the region. At the High Point trees and vegetation are quite deformed and stunted due to climate and soil conditions, which gives the area an eerie appearance. Also found here are peculiar circular patterns of stone that were formed by frost action over thousands of years. |
